7 tips how to best prepare for your tattoo - Tips to prepare for your tattoo

The time has come: after careful consideration you have made an appointment to get a tattoo. And if this is your first tattoo, you certainly have thousands of questions buzzing around in your head! What you need to pay attention to and how you can perfectly prepare for the appointment, we show you.

1. The right care

A tattoo means stress for your skin. After all, a tattoo is comparable to a graze. To prepare your skin perfectly, you should take good care of it beforehand, especially if you tend to have dry skin. Apply body lotion regularly (start at least two weeks before your appointment) and drink enough water. This will help your skin become more supple and make it easier for the tattoo artist to tattoo you.
If you have your appointment in the summer, also make sure that the area to be tattooed does not get sunburned.
Skin that has a sunburn, a wound or a rash will not be tattooed!
Since you and your tattoo artist for an extended period of time in a possibly confined space, it is only appropriate that you shower again beforehand. Please do not apply any more lotion afterwards. Your tattoo artist will probably have to grease your skin to make the blueprint last, and the more intensive wiping and disinfecting can stress your skin unnecessarily. You also don't have to shave the area to be tattooed in advance. This is usually done by your tattoo artist.

2. The right clothes

You love the latest trends and usually never leave the house in sweatpants? Then this will probably be your first time.
Especially for meetings that take more time, you should choose comfortable clothes. You should also choose clothes that can get dirty. During tattooing, paint splatters can land on your clothes, which are difficult to wash out again.
Please also make sure when choosing your clothes that the tattoo artist can easily reach the area to be tattooed and that the clothes do not have any pressure points on your skin. Loose clothes you should also choose so that your skin after tattooing is not also still stressed by friction on the "wound".

3. Avoid stress

That is usually easier said than done! We all rush from one appointment to the next and it's hard to catch our breath.
Nevertheless, you should try not to get stressed out on the day of the stitch.
Prepare for your appointment in the evening, leave early to allow for traffic jams or train delays, and stock up on the necessary aftercare products. After your appointment, you probably won't feel like waiting in line at a pharmacy or drugstore.

4. Be sober

You need to take courage for your new tattoo? We strongly advise you not to. At least 24 hours before your appointment you should consume neither alcohol, nor drugs (which of course also leave out on all other days 😉 ). Alcohol dilutes the blood and makes the work for the tattoo artist only unnecessarily difficult.
Therefore, please also refrain from taking medications that promote this, such as aspirin or painkillers. NOTE: You should also avoid garlic 1 - 2 days before the appointment, as it also thins the blood.

5. Drink enough

People should drink up to two to three liters of water a day, regardless of whether a tattoo appointment is coming up or not. But especially in the 24 hours before your appointment, you should make sure you drink enough fluids. Dehydrated skin does not absorb the color as well and actually makes a difference in the finished result.

6. Sleep enough

On the day of the appointment, you should definitely be well rested and fit. So make sure you didn't party too long the night before or even work through the night. With enough punch you support your body optimally.

7. Eat enough

This is actually the most important point next to sleeping and drinking. A balanced and healthy diet is always right and important, but it is actually indispensable in preparation for your appointment.
With the right nutrition, you support your circulation and provide your body with the perfect basis for the energy-sapping day. Your body may even be more pain resistant than normal. You should stay away from sugar and carbohydrate-rich foods. Instead, go for vegetables, high-quality oils and meat.
It's best to start switching to the above foods about one to two weeks before your appointment.
You should definitely take a few healthy snacks with you to your appointment, especially if it lasts longer. Tattoo Snackz, with their high fiber content, provide a power boost that you can use outside of your tattoo session. Thanks to the zinc they contain, they also help maintain normal skin. Your tattoo artist will certainly not say no to this power-boosting snack 😉.

We wish you in any case a lot of joy with your new tattoo! Enjoy the day and if you are particularly nervous in advance, do not hesitate to talk to your tattoo artist.
