Tattoo history part 2: Children\'s toys in the tattoo sector - Tattoo history; Barbie and stick-on tattoos

We take a look at the colourful world of children's toys and show you what crazy things there are in relation to tattooing.

BARBIE

In 2011, Mattel launched a new Barbie on the market and it didn't exactly go down well with American parents. Because she was, oh shocker, tattooed. Clearly, giving your child a tattooed Barbie paves the way for alcohol, cigarettes and drugs.
Yet Barbie was always such a role model. She's been a space traveller, manager, president, vet and now she's also tattooed.
But let's start from the beginning. Barbie was created by the Italian designer Sinone Legno and his lifestyle brand Tokidoki. He gave Barbie a pink vinyl mini-skirt, high heels, a pet dog and lots of tattoos. Only 7,500 copies of this iconic Barbie were produced at the hefty price of 50 US dollars. The target group here was by no means small children, but adult collectors. The tattooed Barbie was a real bestseller, which is why there were two more tattooed Barbies from Tokidoki on the market in 2015. One Barbie, ready for a night on the town with a beautiful glittery dress and tattooed arms and the other with a goth look, white skin and a skull print on her dress. Mattel is always bringing special editions onto the market and there have already been one or two tattoo Barbies. Once with stick-on stickers and once in co-operation with Harley Davidson. In this co-operation, the girl had two large wings on her back.

AIRBRUSH TATTOO / STICKER

We've all had them and they're experiencing a new boom! The sticky tattoos.
In the past, they were often found in chewing gum packets or magazines. The first contact with body jewellery.
Today they still exist, but the game manufacturers have also come up with something new. Airbrush Tattoo Studio! The colour can be applied and spread evenly with an airbrush pen. The tattoos can be designed freely or applied using a stencil. Next Tattoo Artist in the making.
You think that's it? There's even a tattoo lab.
A laboratory consisting of a workbench, marker, colouring liquid and stencil. So your child can create freehand tattoos just like a real tattoo artist.

KIDS TATTOO MACHINE

Yes, you read that right - there are tattoo coil machines for children. But don't panic, of course without a needle and with a pen instead. For all growing artists who want to emulate their mum or dad.
It's amazing what there is for children in the tattoo industry. From a tattooed Barbie to their own coil machine.
Nothing stands in the way of a career as a tattoo artist.
